Indigo Wise:
Marlborough
Indigo Wise has always felt a connection with art. Although not being encouraged to pursue her art meant she didn’t start painting and drawing until very recently, a ‘Creativity for Change’ course unlocked the door and she walked through!
When Indigo paints or draws it becomes like breathing to her and space and time have no value. Her art is essential to her, and she strives to breathe life into every finished piece of work.
Her American Indian lineage is evident in her falcon series – she also draws on this connection when creating and finds inspiration when she is unsure of how to approach an aspect of her art.
Indigo was awarded a Frank Davis Scholarship in 2015 for Diploma of Art and Creativity (Advanced), she was also selected for the International Poster Design Competition Francisco Mantecon, in Spain in 2013. She was the winner of the Fresh Choice Nelson Folks Art Award 2013 (Wine Label) and was awarded the Oriel Hoskin Scholarship 2012 for Diploma of Art and Creativity from The Learning Connexion, Wellington.
It’s important to Indigo that she is making a difference through her art, with the Falcon series she has partnered with the Marlborough Falcon Trust and money raised from her works helps these endangered birds.
Indigo also gives a bi weekly contribution to Operation Restore Hope, which is a not-for-profit, non-governmental, non-sectarian charity that provides surgical procedures for underprivileged children in the Philippines.
Indigo lives in the beautiful Golden bay area where she is constantly inspired by all that nature shows her and she is realising the creations that are part of her heart and mind.
She has work held in private collections throughout New Zealand, in Australia, Scotland, France, Ireland, the Netherlands, Canada and the United States of America.
